Choosing sun protection for your car?

We list here the different methods for creating sun protection for your car, the pros and cons with the different sun protection methods.

Choosing sun protection for your car also means choosing between a nicer car, a cooler car, or a safer car. The choice of method for creating sun protection in the car usually depends on how much it costs, how important the look of the car is after the sun protection has been fitted, and on the urgency of creating the sun protection.

Shade panel

The shade panel attaches with a suction cup to the windows of the rear doors. This sunlight protection creates shade on a limited surface, for example if you have a child seat on the back seat and simply want to shade the child's face. However, a shade panel has no heat reducing effect, and does not provide good protection against UV- or IR-radiation, so it should only be used as a temporary solution for sun protection. Shade panels cannot be used on front windows, or on windows that you want to roll down.

ADVANTAGES

  • Quick assembly
  • Removable
  • Inexpensive

DISADVANTAGES

  • Only works on the rear doors
  • Unable to roll down the windows
  • No heat protection
  • No visibility protection
  • Hard to clean

Sun protection blinds

Sun protection blinds have a good shading and heat-reducing effect and provide some protection against UV- and IR-radiation. Sun protection blinds also provide some visibility protection but impair visibility out of the vehicle. They should not be used on windows that you want to be able to roll down.

Plexiglass panel

Sun protection panels in plexiglass. These types of soft, bendable sun protection panels are delivered precut to the car's windows and attach easily with clips that wedge the panel against the window. The panel can be easily removed and reassembled as necessary. However, a window cannot be rolled down with a panel mounted. Plexiglass sun protection panels often have good protection against UV- and IR-radiation and lift the look of the car.

Adhesive window tint film

Traditional window tint film attaches to the window with adhesive. Window tint film mounted with adhesive is often called "professional film", precisely because it requires a lot of knowledge and a sure touch for successful application without bubbles or folds in the film. Most people therefore choose to have this type of film applied commercially. Properly mounted, you often get very nicely tinted windows with a long life.

Removable window tint film

Adhesive-free window tint film is applied with water and adheres just as securely as traditional window tint film, but is also removable, for example in winter or for an inspection. The material, flexible PVC, makes it basically impossible not to apply the film successfully, especially if it is pre-cut window tint film for the respective car model. With removable window tint film, you get stylish and functional sun protection with a long lifetime, and at a very reasonable price
